French Toast

On days when I feel like cooking myself a good breakfast, I will usually do French Toast. It is my all time favourite, especially if it comes in crispy form (p/s: I hate peanut butter and unfortunately, french toast often comes with peanut butter when you eat out).

French toast is one of the easiest breakfast to make. And here's a super easy recipe where you can alter it to the amount of french toast you want to make. The recipe I am going to share basically makes 2 slices of french toast. To make 4 slices, simply multiply the ingredients needed by 2!

Ingredients
(make 2 slices)
  • 2 slices of bread (preferable stale bread)
  • 1 medium/large egg
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar/honey
  • Butter for grilling
Directions
  1. Whisk egg, milk, sugar (or honey) until well combined in a bowl.
  2. Dip the bread in the mixture one at a time (and never leave the bread in the mixture for too long), on both sides. Heat up the pan and melt the butter in the pan. Pan fry (on low/medium heat) the toast until golden brown (or lightly brown if prefer a softer texture).
  3. Serve the toast with a cube of butter or drizzle with some maple syrup/honey or some icing sugar. For savoury french toast, serve it with ketchup or mayonnaise and top it with bacons (replace sugar with salt in the earlier step).
Tips
  • Remember to only dip the bread in the mixture and not soak it. You only want the bread to be coated with the mixture on the surface.
  • Be careful that the toast will easily burnt when using honey. Therefore, only use low heat when honey is used.
  • With the sugar/honey added in to the mixture, there is no additional need to "flavour" the bread upon completion.
